I don't know why the update couldn't be incremental. Well, after doing a quick WinDirStat on the MTGA_Data folder, I'm not sure that this game works with a big file, as the assets seem to be located in the Downloads folder, which contains 11 000 files for 5GB. MTGA is running on Unity, I'm not sure what the limitations are for this engine. Some engines and/or game development companies have not properly implemented the incremental update of specific game assets within these "big files", or it can happen that a change in the big file structure itself requires a full update of the file, which results in these large multi-GB updates for seemingly simple feature changes. Most games are developed around the concept of "big files", which are basically large zip files for game assets, indexed and optimized to be read by the specific engine running the game.
